Aït Ben-Haddou is a ksar, a fortified city pre-Saharan, surrounded by walls, located in southern Morocco, on the route of the old caravan route, between the Sahara and Marrakech, along the Ouarzazate River. The ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, presents magnificent examples of kasbahs, these great buildings built for the defense of medinas and cities and were evidence of the wealth of some families. Unfortunately, these kasbahs and the entire ksar, built in the ground, deteriorate considerably with each shower. The site is still inhabited by a dozen families, but most of the inhabitants have moved on the other side of the river, in a more modern city. Aït Ben-Haddou is well known for having served many films: Lawrence of Arabia by David Lean, Martin Scorsese's Last Temptation of Christ and Kundun, Bernardo Bertolucci's Sahara in the Sahara, Ridley Scott's Gladiator, or Oliver Stone's Alexander to name a few.
